Bio

Abbey Koenning-Rutherford is the Aryeh Neier Fellow with the ºìÐÓÊÓÆµâ€™s Human Rights Program and Racial Justice Program, where they are focusing on climate-related human rights violations against Indigenous communities within the US. Prior to joining the ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ, Abbey authored a report on environmental human rights abuses at Human Rights Watch. Before becoming a fellow, while in law school, they served as a legal intern at Natural Resource Defense Council, EarthRights International, Earthjustice, 50 Eggs Films, and Al Otro Lado. They also represented clients in seeking asylum and conducted a human rights fact-finding investigation with Georgetown’s Human Rights Institute in Iraq. Prior to law school, Abbey worked as a paralegal at an immigration law firm. Abbey received a B.A. from the University of Oklahoma and a J.D. and a Certificate in Refugees & Humanitarian Emergencies from Georgetown University Law Center.
