Bio

Sruti Swaminathan is a Staff Attorney with the LGBTQ & HIV Project at the Ƶ. Sruti’s work includes impact litigation, as well as legislative and administrative advocacy, on behalf of LGBTQ people and people living with HIV across the United States. Sruti currently serves as lead counsel to Misanin and other plaintiffs in Misanin v. Wilson, a federal lawsuit challenging South Carolina’s total ban on gender affirming care for transgender youth and restriction of the use of public funds for gender affirming medical care, and serves as counsel to B.P.J. in B.P.J. v. West Virginia Board of Education, a federal lawsuit challenging West Virginia’s law banning girls and women who are transgender from participating in school sports. Sruti is also counsel to L.W. and other plaintiffs in L.W. v. Skrmetti, a federal lawsuit challenging Tennessee’s total ban on gender affirming care for transgender youth that just went before the Supreme Court. In 2023, Sruti was named one of the “Best LGBTQ+ Lawyers Under 40” by the National LGBTQ Bar Association. Prior to joining the Ƶ, Sruti spent three years at Lambda Legal, litigating to advance the rights of LGBTQ youth, and spent four years of practicing in the Litigation Department of Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP, where they spent much of their legal career supporting underserved populations, including LGBTQ+ people and undocumented individuals.
